A week stay in Jakarta
This was my first official trip when I was working with Oracle. I had to deliver Solaris 11 Boot Camp training at Jakarta, Indonesia. I stayed there for a week during Christmas time at Shangri-La hotel. I flew in Singapore airlines and reached Jakarta in the morning. The city is infamous for traffic and it took 3+ hours to reach our hotel. I had lunch and slept for a while.
Evening I went to the nearby local market and searched for some local cuisine, but there was nothing for Vegetarian. I settled with Starbucks coffee and Dunkin donut. I went to different activities room in the hotel and finally went to Sauna. Had a hearty dinner at one of their signature restaurants and called it a day.
The Mercedes Benz taxi service is quite popular there and so took Benz taxi to office which is located at Sentral Senyan 1 building. The Boot camp was a day long event and it was for four days. In the evening, I used to walk to the Senyan City mall and being Christmas time, the mall was decorated with glittering lights.
The day after the boot camp got over, I went to Tanah Abang Market and shopped few items. They are know for Batik silver (super tempting, mostly for the lady) and Kopi Luwak coffee. We don't want to know how its prepared, just relish it :)
INR's will not be exchanged there and its better to carry USD and convert there. The denominations are crazy and we will be millionaires temporarily. I did not have time to visit Bali, Yogyakarta. Some other time may be.
I had 12 hour layover in Singapore and had a valid visa. I went to the city and saw some places.
