Being Vegetarian in Cambodia
The people in Cambodia savor all kinds of meat generously. But this should not hinder anyone who is a vegetarian to not travel. With a few tips and some planning, you can easily enjoy the wide array of meatless and dairy-free delights that Cambodia has has to offer.
I took the below card printout and when not confident about the ingredients, would show this card and they would understand my need.
The following Khmer phrases will help you communicate with staff at marts or restaurants about vegetarian food.
I don’t eat… = Khnyom aut nyam
No meat = Aht chak
Egg (chicken/duck) = Pong moan/thear
Milk = tduk dah ko
Oyster sauce = preng chong
Fish sauce = tduk try
Chicken powder = sop knah
Vegetable = bong lie
Fried rice = bai chaa
