Sydney Day 1
I reached Sydney at noon and bought an Opal card at the Airport. Took train to central and reached hostel. Packed lunch and left to bus stand to reach Coogee beach to do the coastal walk.
The coastal walk is about 6 kms and you could do it either from Coogee to Bondi or the other way.On the Coogee to Bondi walk, you could follow the concrete footpath the whole way but there are a few spots worth diverting for. Some of the walk highlights include,
- Ocean views, towering sandstone cliffs and crashing waves as far as you can see
- Golden beaches
- Surfers catching a wave before and after work
- Aussie beach culture at every turn
- Coastal pools, cliff top lookouts and rock pools.
The important stops/points along the walk include,
Stop 1: Coogee Beach
Stop 2: Shrine to Virgin Mary
Stop 3: Bali Memorial
Stop 4: Dunningham Reserve Sandstone Cliffs
Stop 5: Gordons Bay
Stop 6: Gordons Bay Underwater Nature Trail
Stop 7: Clovelly
Stop 8: Waverley Cemetery
Stop 9: Bronte Beach
Stop 10: Bronte SLSC
Stop 11: Dobroyd Head
Stop 12: Tamarama
Stop 13: Aboriginal engraving site
Stop 14: Mackenzies Point

Stop 16: Bondi SLSC
You could break your walk at each of the point and take bus back to either Coogee or Bondi. There are regular water filling stations , rest rooms and heaps of cafe and loads of places to savage. I took around 4 hours to complete with lot of pit stops and photo stops. I had read Gelatissimo at bondi junction had classic and inventive ice-cream flavors. So walked to the stop and had choco with tender coconut flavor. It was different :)
I then took a bus to Circular Quay which is the port from where long distance ships and boats to Manly beach depart. Also, the gateway for Harbour Bridge and Opera House. The waterfront promenade is lively with street performance, outdoor cafes, restaurants and offers different vantage points to view bridge and opera house. I spent closet to 2 hours here and walked to The Rocks which is a laneway known for open market culture. It has cities oldes pub and upscale restaurants which offer harbour views. I had dinner in one of the oldest Italian restaurant which had harp and vocal performance. I then walked to the hostel along Pitt street which was again a happening street with performance, upscale restaurants and tall buildings on either side. I had plans to visit Blue mountains the next day and decided to take the 6.30 AM train from Central.
