Sydney Day 2
The Blue mountains have been home to the Aboriginals for many millennia and their footprint is evident throughout the area. The mountains are not actually blue, but its due to Rayleigh scattering effect. The area is abundant with Eucalyptus trees and so tiny droplets of eucalyptus oil are dispersed into atmosphere, scattering the sun rays
It can be a day trip from Sydney or there are options to stay over and explore many bushwalks. I did a dat trip from Sydney and left Central station early in the morning. I took 6.30 AM train and the journey was close to 2 hours. The terrain changed from city outskirts to grasslands to hilly terrain.
Kuranda is the disembarking station and tickets to explore the blue mountains are available outside the station. There are different passes and I chose LyreBird pass. I decided to visit places as advised here.
The booklet acts like a bus pass and if we wave, explorer bus will stop. They run in the predefined circuit covering all important sights and have stoppage there. The first explorer bus was at 9.10 AM if I am not wrong and the friendly driver advised us to visit Scenic World first as its the second most visited sight after Opera house in NSW. I followed his advise and got down at Scenic world place. It has 4 attractions. Scenic Skyway/Cableway/Railway/Walkway. All equally good, but special mention is the Railway which is the steepest railway in the world. Thrilling experience it was.
Next I visited Cliff tops, valley tour, Echo Point , Three sisters and other interesting places. All involved moderate walking, some through valleys, while other steep stairs . There is no dearth for food options and its spread out. You could also get a packed lunch and have at some nice sights like Leura Cascades.
I had plans to take the 3.30 PM train to Sydney and you can either take it from Katoomba again or from Leura . The trains are punctual to the minute. It was again a 2 hour journey to Central. I was tired with lots of bushwalking. So decided to watch a movie in the hostel at night and not go out anywhere. Self prepared dinner , followed by a movie night ended the day.
