Visiting the Treasure Island - Maldives

The Maldives is one of the most sought-after luxury destinations in the world, conjuring images of lavish resorts and jet-set honeymooners lounging in beachfront villas and swimming in sapphire waters. The Maldives is home to all of those things and is known as a luxe destination for splashing out.

Located in the Indian Ocean, this remote country of 1,192 islands and 26 coral atolls is bursting with world-class diving and snorkeling. There are a plethora of opportunities to explore outside the hotel resort bubble and take in the beautiful remoteness of this tropical paradise.

The visit to this tiny island nation was due from long time, and thanks to relaxed covid rules, we could plan without stress. We decided to stay in newly opened Oblu Xperience Resort, which was just 15 min speedboat transfer from Velana International Airport.

We booked Water Villa accommodation for 4 D, 3 N with All-Inclusive package. At the airport, we were received by the resort folks and helped us get onto the speedboat. The transfer was quick and we were in the paradise in a jiffy.

The checkin formalities was smooth and we hopped onto electric buggy which took us to our water villa. The rooms were spacious and views from the balcony was out of the world. It gave us a vantage point to see distance stars and infinite view of the Indian ocean. The ocean was a step away from the room and you could climb down the stairs from the room to get into the ocean. We did see some sea creatures, lazing around. One other highlight was , you could sun bathe in the balcony itself.

The resort had many facilities like Paddle Boat, Ocean Slide, Evening DJ, Fire Show, Cultural shows and others. There was also a kids club which had creche like facility.

The restaurant had plethora of options to choose from and it suited all nations people. The cuisine ranged from Asian to Western. You even had Jain food option.

We spent the day walking in the morning, spend quality time in ocean waters, relax in the noon and evening walk beside ocean and island hopping. It was a relaxed sybaritic vacation with no prior plans or itinerary. :)

Things to See and Do in the Maldives:

  • Treat yourself to a spa day
  • Snorkel in the atoll
  • Washup on a SandBank
  • Do the Watersports
  • Go Fishing Tour

Epilogue:
  • USD is accepted everywhere.
  • Use a travel agent for resort stays. This might seem counterintuitive for a budget traveler but agents who specialise in Maldives travel often have access to better deals than you can find on the internet.
  • Book in advance.
  • Consider All-Inclusive Packages
  • Its better to get some common medicines as in resorts medical facilities are limited
  • Use Water Repelling Sun screen lotion.
